Musings

You probably haven't noticed because I am horrible at updating my blog, but I have been spending less time on the Internet lately.  Particularly on Facebook and design blogs.  Now if you went on my Facebook page now, you'd probably be all:  "SJ, what are you talking about?  Clearly you still have an updating and 'Like Button' addiction/real problem".  But I promise you I've been over there less than usual lately.

Go New Year's Resolution! (sort of).

Anyway, the results have been:

Spending more time "in the moment" with both my husband and daughter.  More snuggle time with my man + more clapping, singing, and silly game playing with the Bean.  Truly awesome.

I've also been spending less time thinking about the things I don't have and want, and more time thinking about the things I do have, and how I can make my space more livable, safer for Bean, prettier and happier for me  ...using what I do have, and getting rid of what I don't use.  And I've spent less time looking for inspiration and more time doing things.  Pick-up-the-house things.  (Still not laundry things).  Crafty things.  Creative things.

With all this doing, by now I really should have a plethora of DIY tutorials and "YES IT'S TRUE I MADE THAT... err... THING" bragging pictures, but my camera seems to be perpetually "exhausted."  Or at least that's what the camera says about the battery.  Lazy camera.  <I'm exhausted too, I don't just quit for days at a time Camera!>.  So sometime soon maybe I'll remedy that and you can be so very amazed at how awesome I am / what I devote my time to.  <See amazed is a great choice of word because it has both positive and negative connotations... right now you're probably amazed that I spent time pointing that out.  I could go on>.

Anyway, I forget where I was going with all this, beyond the ironic posting about being happier without the Internet on the Internet so I'll just wrap it up by awarding this post the "MOST BORING UPDATE EVER" certificate of unachievement and say later taters! <-- Bringing it back.  <Nope.  Nope.>

Thanks for reading!

Disturbing Symptoms?

I'm a little bit worried about Baby Girl.

Lately she's been exhibiting an unsettling amount of blurriness.

For instance:

See what I mean?  Definitely something worth mentioning to her doctor.

Here's a fun game!  Let's Play:  Why Is This Baby So Darn Happy?

A:  She poked her Mom in the eye.
B:  She just pulled out some of her Mom's hair.
C:  She just tried to rip off her Mom's lip.
D:  All of the above.

I think the answer is obvious.  Ah... Motherhood. =)

Anyway, I'll write more soon.

Soon as I fix this apple juice keyboard.

Resolutions: Blog More, Facebook Less

Look at me posting twice in one week.  Someone deserves a pat on the back.  And that someone is me.

And you.  Also probably you.

Yesterday I introduced you to my first goal for 2012, to start dating again.  So today, I was going to talk about the oh-so-typical "lose weight" resolution and why I'm not making it, but one of my dear readers was so kind as to point out that I really should make it a goal to blog more.  And that just so happens to be:

RESOLUTION NUMBER THREE:  Blog More, Facebook Less
(slightly out of order, but I like to give the people what they want)

So why blog more?  Well primarily it's because of my raging narcissism that I see absolutely no reason to try to keep in check.  On the exact same hand,  it also gives me a chance to remind you all just how delightfully witty I am (more on that later).  Generally though, writing is therapeutic, according to the American Psychological Association.  Additionally, people who write, especially those who publish their writing on Blogs, tend to be more attractive, wealthier, and generally more popular than those who write on desks, bus seats, and bathroom stalls according to this article.

Blogging also gives me a place to write about all the awesome things Mili does without having to worry about how my handwriting looks while trying to squeeze words onto those tiny blank lines in baby books.  So my resoultion, translated into measurable goal is: to update my blog once a week.

Now I was going to write about why I've decided to Facebook less, but I've run out of time, so I'll summarize for now.  Facebook is a time stealing, harbinger of the apocalypse, created by the CIA to spy on you and also wants to EAT YOUR BABY!

Or maybe it's just the time stealing part.  I can't go into more detail write now though, because I need to go check my Facebook.

IT'S 2012 BABY!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

So it's time for the obligatory New Year's Resolution post, but first I'd like to say a belated "HAPPY HOLIDAYS!" to all my readers! That means you, Mom, Dad, Husband, and Stacy.*

Second, I'd like to yell at you all for not reading my blog since September!

Grumble Grumble.

Wait... What's that you say?  I haven't written a post since September?  I'm sure that's no excuse.  It does, however, bring me to my list of resolutions for 2012 and the pointy point of this post.

This year I made some some achievable, measurable, goals out of my usually vaguely vague resolutions, and I'll be bringing them to you in posts over the next couple days / weeks (when I get around to it).  So hold onto your pants, this next part will be exciting.  For those of you who only come here for pictures and amusing anecdotes about the Beanette, you can skip this part and I promise there will be an amusing-to-me story about Mili at the end.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Resolutions Goals

Spend More Time With My Husband  Go on one date with Caleb every week:

As awesome and wonderful as Baby Girl is, she's surprisingly awful at dating.  For instance, she never tells me how pretty I look, and not once has she offered to even split the bill.   Sure, she can't speak English and has no source of income herself, but honestly, that excuse just reminds me she doesn't have a job yet.

I once stumbled upon a blogger that declared that people who talk about wanting any time away from their children are selfish, Godless, heathens, who probably shouldn't have had children in the first place.  The key to a happy family, they said, is integrating children into every facet of your life and to also stop being a whiny jerk.  I paraphrase of course.  Well, my child still gets the majority of her nutrition direct from my body and continues to remind me of that fact during the wee hours of the night and morning on a regular basis.  And she is 7 1/2 months old.  I'm not sure how to integrate her into my life much more.

So I'd like to spend a few hours every week sans Baby Girl, and avec Caleb.  That doesn't mean we have to go out to eat, or even go anywhere.  Just spend a couple hours a week going on a walk, playing games, conversing, or otherwise reconnecting.

So there you have it.  Goal Numero Uno!

Now for the Beanette fans, I was going to post a story about Mili fighting a plastic butterfly or her bizarre and inconsistent sense of humor.  (Why was the word "boat" HILARIOUS yesterday, but boring today?   What is so darn funny about pizza crust?)  Alas, she's currently waking up from all 10 minutes of a nap, so instead I'll post this amusing picture.

*If you're upset about not getting a shout out, you should comment more (and also I should read up on my own blog, so I actually remember who comments).

Love To All!

Holey Schnikes!

This post has no pictures.

(Wah-wah).

You're here anyway so keep readin "STUFF ABOUT MAH KID."

Mili bebe did some cool bebe stuff this week.  For instance, on Wednesday she put her foot in her mouth for the first time!  (Pictures to come soon... as soon as I find that camera). Then this morning she fell back asleep in her pack and play from full-on-awake all by herself.  Crying not included.*  She just woke up, ate her own foot for about 20 minutes and then fell peacefully back asleep.

Finally, this morning she also managed to have tummy time for the required 30 minutes without spitting up all over herself or majorly freaking out.  This was probably helped by the fact that her Mommy wasn't all up in her face shaking rattles and saying "You can do it!  You can doooo it Mili Bear" in a Mommy sickingly sweet sing song voice (say that five times fast) that would probably make a grown adult lose their lunch.

So, whoop, Go Baby!  (whoop, whoop, go baby).

*Don't worry internet parent trolls I imagine to be reading my blog** and judging me.  We don't let Mili cry it out.  I'm against it.  Currently.  I may not always be.  Not too strong a record on the parental convictions thus far.

**Yes, I'm aware no one reads this blog.

Its been a while...

I thought I'd post some pictures of the bebe since the child is growing like a little weed.  I swear I put her 0-3 month clothes in the washer, waited 3-5 days (depending on your preference for truthieness) and suddenly she can fit in 6 month onesies.  Color me shocked.

Its been a couple weeks* since I even took pictures so I was excited to share images of a smiley, chubby baby.

*I have no idea how much time has passed.  I live in twilight zone time vortex of new baby-ness.

Ok.  Not so smiley...  I do like this picture though because it demonstrates the neck disappearance phenomenon that seems to be going on today (the result of which is this related phenomenon).  We'll try again...

"What's that Mom?  Do bored and disinterested?"

"Crazy eyed tongue sticking out?"

"Angry-eyed lizard?"

"Show off my skillz?"

"Ummm..."

"This thing?"

"Uh...?"

"Sneeze face?"

"Ugh..."

"Yawn?"

"Baby Dracula!?"

"Eat dress?"

"Yarr?  Piratey-Pirate?"

"OHHHhhhh....  I see...."

"Smile!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS...

Author: Jane Werner Watson |  Illustrations: Eloise Wilkin
Sorry for the blur

It was published in 1958 by Merrigold Press and has really beautiful illustrations.  My Nana gave me this copy when I was four years old and I have fond memories of staring intently at the pictures.

I would love to get some prints from this illustrator to put in Mili's room but seeing as the illustrator was born in 1904 I'm guessing they might be hard to come by and I'd hate to take apart a book for that purpose.

Oh, and another one of my favorite things people...
