Holey Schnikes!

This post has no pictures.

(Wah-wah).

You're here anyway so keep readin "STUFF ABOUT MAH KID."

Mili bebe did some cool bebe stuff this week.  For instance, on Wednesday she put her foot in her mouth for the first time!  (Pictures to come soon... as soon as I find that camera). Then this morning she fell back asleep in her pack and play from full-on-awake all by herself.  Crying not included.*  She just woke up, ate her own foot for about 20 minutes and then fell peacefully back asleep.

Finally, this morning she also managed to have tummy time for the required 30 minutes without spitting up all over herself or majorly freaking out.  This was probably helped by the fact that her Mommy wasn't all up in her face shaking rattles and saying "You can do it!  You can doooo it Mili Bear" in a Mommy sickingly sweet sing song voice (say that five times fast) that would probably make a grown adult lose their lunch.

So, whoop, Go Baby!  (whoop, whoop, go baby).

*Don't worry internet parent trolls I imagine to be reading my blog** and judging me.  We don't let Mili cry it out.  I'm against it.  Currently.  I may not always be.  Not too strong a record on the parental convictions thus far.

**Yes, I'm aware no one reads this blog.

Its been a while...

I thought I'd post some pictures of the bebe since the child is growing like a little weed.  I swear I put her 0-3 month clothes in the washer, waited 3-5 days (depending on your preference for truthieness) and suddenly she can fit in 6 month onesies.  Color me shocked.

Its been a couple weeks* since I even took pictures so I was excited to share images of a smiley, chubby baby.

*I have no idea how much time has passed.  I live in twilight zone time vortex of new baby-ness.

Ok.  Not so smiley...  I do like this picture though because it demonstrates the neck disappearance phenomenon that seems to be going on today (the result of which is this related phenomenon).  We'll try again...

"What's that Mom?  Do bored and disinterested?"

"Crazy eyed tongue sticking out?"

"Angry-eyed lizard?"

"Show off my skillz?"

"Ummm..."

"This thing?"

"Uh...?"

"Sneeze face?"

"Ugh..."

"Yawn?"

"Baby Dracula!?"

"Eat dress?"

"Yarr?  Piratey-Pirate?"

"OHHHhhhh....  I see...."

"Smile!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS...

Author: Jane Werner Watson |  Illustrations: Eloise Wilkin
Sorry for the blur

It was published in 1958 by Merrigold Press and has really beautiful illustrations.  My Nana gave me this copy when I was four years old and I have fond memories of staring intently at the pictures.

I would love to get some prints from this illustrator to put in Mili's room but seeing as the illustrator was born in 1904 I'm guessing they might be hard to come by and I'd hate to take apart a book for that purpose.

Oh, and another one of my favorite things people...

A HAPPY KITCHEN

Next to the cupcake liners are my bros.  They are beneath my hos.  Apparently this is incorrect.

This picture made me realize there is something I should be cleaning underneath the fridge.  Boo.

 THE END.

Dear Mili

Last night you woke up about 70 billion times due to a combination of bionic hearing (e.g. "Did you just roll over Mommy?  Did you sigh Mommy?  Was that a pin dropping somewhere downstairs Mommy???) and an inability to hold onto your bink.  Finally around 4:30 I gave up the good fight, the replace the binky fight, and decided to feed us both.  I found it particularly frustrating because lately you've actually been sleeping quite well.  And while I was convincing myself that I was just too darn tired to have an emotional breakdown about it and should just get on with feeding you, I got to thinking about how much you've already changed.

In the hospital they made tiny prints of your feet in your baby book, but not your hands.  I kept telling myself that I would get around to that eventually but practical considerations got in the way.  Things like "What kind of ink is safe for baby?" or "But she sticks her hands in her mouth.  What if she has ink on those hands?"  Now I wish I'd thrown caution to the wind and inked you up.  I mean, realistically, you're going to probably try to eat a bug one day or Cassie dog's food or your own stinky feet.  I can still get those hand prints, but I guess it just won't be the same.  And also, your hands will look disproportionately long compared to your feet.

I've also recently fallen victim to over sentimentalizing your newborn baby clothes.  Something I found baffling before you started to really out grow them.  My mantra was, we don't have room.  We'll need space for new things.  Bring one in, take on out.  Out with the old, in with the new.  But it turns out that's much harder to do than you would think once you realize that your baby will never, ever be that small again.

Some days with a crying baby go by agonizingly slow, but somehow this first summer has gone by incredibly quickly.  Mili, someday, when you're grown up, if you choose to have a baby, people will never stop telling you to "enjoy ___________(whatever baby thing is currently tiring/vexing/baffling you), because it all goes by so fast."  And if you're anything like me, this will probably annoy the bejeezers out of you.  But the truth is, when it's not going by agonizingly slowly, it is flying by.  In fact, when it seems to be going by slowly, it's still flying by.

So yes, Mili, that was Mommy sighing that woke you up.  But don't worry.  It's not such a bad thing.

It's only because I love you so much.

Ready to save a butt load of money!

Yes, that's the title of this blog post.  For two reasons.

1)  I am classy.  C-L-A-S-S-Y.

2)  We are going to save a butt load.  Literally.

That's right.  Because diapers are expennnnnnnnnsive.  Seriously.  One week of diapers is around $25. <shocked emoticon>.  Also now our "Recycle, Save the Planet" diaper bag will no longer be so ironic.

And here is the tot herself, donning her first reusable!
Awww...  so cute.  In other baby related news, Miss Mili had her two month check up today.  She was two months on the 20th.  She is now 10 lbs 10 oz and 23 and 3/4" long!  That's in the 50th percentile in weight and the 90th percentile in height.

And that yellow mess in the background? Why that is the mobile  wind sock chandelier from our wedding.  I'm planning to hang it from the ceiling, perhaps trim it up a bit.  Perhaps hang it from her light fixture for some extra special fanciness.  Because we Grishams are nothing if not fancy people.

Finally speaking of weddings and fancy people, congratulations to Ashley McClure and Vilert Loving on tying the knot!  And special congratulations for being able to legitimately say "Who me?  Yes, I married Doctor Loving."

How jealous are you of that name?  Admit it.  So jealous.

Some crafting in Mili's room today

A short update!  I've been resting in the recliner chair a lot yesterday and today and whipped up two little projects for Mili's room.  Initially, I'd planned on making a garland that went from each corner of the room to the ceiling light, but after sewing said garland to a blanket and then my recliner, I decided less is more.

Ta da!  And up close...  I got this pattern from a fellow blogger on-line but I can't seem to remember where exactly.  I'll have to post it when I figure that out.

And then if we zoom out, we can see the lovely, lovely electrical box in the room.  It's my fave.

See how it just ties the whole room together?  ...No?  I've been planning on covering it up, but it is hard to find something near those dimensions that doesn't end up looking like it's taking over the entire room.  So for now... sigh... it's there.

A wide shot
A quick look around the room...

Just because...
For Caleb and his "Mili Bear"

Finally, not really a craft, per say, but I draped some fabric over the back of the recliner chair to brighten things up!  It's from Amy Butler's Midwest Modern line and happens to be left over from the wedding
(a year ago next Sunday and coincidentally Mili's due date!)

Well, that's all for now.  My classmates threw me an awesome impromptu baby shower the last day of class so I'll be sure to showcase some of that loot pretty soon.  Some seriously nice people!
Much love,

38 Weeks

Well we are now at 38 weeks and some odd days and I am very much a mixed bag of emotions.

On the one hand, I'm very happy that the due date is fast approaching!  At this point, Miss Mili could arrive at any time.  Last night I dreamed about taking care of Mili.  Putting her down for a nap.  Holding her.  Changing her tiny baby socks.  And she sure was beautiful!  It was probably my first dream about taking care of my baby that wasn't incredibly bizarre.  ...I was pretty grumpy to be woken up from it.  So for those reasons, I'm very excited that I'll soon be holding and cuddling my baby.

On the other hand, I've been sick for more than a week now with a really bad cold.  I'm on cold medicine, an inhaler, and my second antibiotic.  At this point I really worry that I would not have the physical energy for a normal delivery.  The old gimpy lung was even brought up in my doctor's appointment, which is never exciting.   I also lost some weight again this week, which I found to be discouraging.  So really, I would really, really, really like Mili to stay put where she is for another two weeks.  Give myself some time to recover and give her some time to put on some oh-so-cute baby fat.  =)

I have my last final of the semester tomorrow and Caleb's grades are due then as well.  So hopefully we will have some sick free time to recover, relax, nest a little before baby gets here.

I really love summer time with my husband.

And now I think I should get to packing that hospital bag...

With this!

Or this!
Or this!

Or this!

I could go on and on.  You know practically it should probably be whatever outfit would be easiest to put on her.  And will keep her warm.

I think.  I don't really know what to consider in the take home outfit.

It will be warm, but will baby be cold anyway?
I have those little mittens for her tiny fists.

Also how do you put a baby in a car seat that is wearing what is, essentially, a sleep sack?

Suggestions?

Aesthetically green ruffles and polka dots are always a winner.

As are monkeys...

and zoo animals...

and hats.
